Class Schedule for Current Session

This is the third level of age-appropriate curriculum that encourages creative young minds and active hands. Participants will increase knowledge of basic art concepts and terminology. Note: Offered each session.

Geared towards the youngest of artists, this class cultivates cognitive development, fine motor skills, and creative thinking. Little minds and hands will be kept busy with visual play, storytelling, and more. Note: Offered each session.

Young artists explore the world of visual arts by learning basic concepts and terminology through 2- and 3-dimensional art projects. Classes foster cognitive development, small motor skills, and creative thinking. Note: Offered each session.

Art Blossoms is a wonderful foundation class for young artists to foster, through art-making, a personal relationship with creative thinking. It focuses on exploring the capacities of different media and develops a greater understanding of various techniques. To engage return students, curriculum is new each session. Note: Offered next in fall session.

Learn creative tricks used by comic artists to produce stories that successfully convey ideas, thoughts and feelings. Participants will conceive, draw, ink, letter and ultimately assemble their own unique characters, storylines and comics. Note: Class offered next in fall session.

Celebrate the end of school with a three day, Kinetic Art themed camp! Sign up for either half-day option, or all-day option. Kids enter a world where their minds are hard at work while having fun. We have Half-Day/Full-Day Options for many classes. Each week offers a different subject for camp goers. Curricula include separate programming for morning and afternoon camps. Camps are open to PreK (age 4) through sixth grade.

Making art, food and eating—what could be better?! Mornings at ArtiCulture we’ll explore art and culture in relation to food and the art of cooking. Afternoons will be spent at the Seward Co-op classroom kitchen to whip up some awesome cuisine.

We will approach classic drawing and painting exercises in engaging ways to foster creative development and artistic style. Students will enhance abilities by learning technical skills, technique and color concepts. Some projects will be guided by personal interest to build a lasting relationship with the creative process—the act of artmaking.

What does it take to be a designer and bring ideas to fruition? Learn to formulate a design problem—I need a pair of shoes for a party that light up like a disco ball, ideate—make lots of drawings to sort out ideas. Then select, create, and finally present your design idea. Sustainable design with recycled materials will be encouraged and used as a tool for creating your innovations. Note: No class July 4.

Come and fill your creative toolbox in this “spinetingling” book-binding class! Learn the basics and some challenging techniques for making uniquely styled and hand-crafted books. Techniques include pamphlet, accordion, stab-binding, Coptic, Belgian, pop-up and more, with opportunity for personal exploration and direction. Beginners welcome! Note: Materials fee $20 payable first day of class. No class July 7.

Do you have a desire to be creative, but feel you don’t have artistic skills? In this class you will learn different ways to create works of art without possessing refined drawing skills. Create textures, patterns, and fine art imagery by learning simple stamping and printing stenciling, and layering methods. Note: Materials fee $12 payable first day.

Paper, the most versatile of media, can be engineered and manipulated in the most amazing ways,for both practical and whimsical purposes . It will be folded, torn, cut, interlocked, printed on and more. Creating won’t be only on paper, but with paper! Materials fee $12 payable first day of class.

Discover your “Artist within” in this self-exploratory class. For artists and non-artists alike, this class is an opportunity to experience the satisfaction of artistic creation while also letting loose, experimenting and having fun. Using a range of activities from writing to painting to printmaking you will create works of fine art by exercising the right side of your brain. Note: Materials fee $12 payable first day. Note: Offered each session.

Experience the ancient art of pewter metal casting by learning techniques used during the Middle Ages. Cast pendants, earrings, charms and buttons. Students will also have the opportunity to cast original designs by carving their own molds. Note: Process involves molten metal. Protective clothing must be worn (closedtoe shoes, long sleeves, long pants). Hand and eye protection will be supplied. Materials fee $20 payable first day of class.

Want to design your dream dress? Learn how to find apparel inspiration, sketch fashion “flats” that show off your ideas clearly, perform sewing machine basics, and then turn your best idea into an actual dress that is your perfect fit! Be ready to think on your feet and learn new skills! Note: Bring 4 yards of muslin fabric. Other supplies discussed in class. Optional: Bring sewing machine.

Journaling is an exciting way to express and keep a record of your personal experiences, thoughts, feelings, and emotional reactions. Learn ways to use writing, poetry and visual journaling to observe, interpret, and process the world around you. Through inspiration and innovative ideas, you will be guided to create your own unique and artistic journal. Note: Materials fee $10 payable on first day of workshop.

If just beginning, benefit from individual guidance through a variety of skill-building projects. More advanced students can expand their base skills in a creative support system. All levels welcome—dry or water based media. Note: Needed supply list will be discussed first day or bring desired materials. Note: offerred each session!

Create original jewelry using colorful and dicroic glass. Make at least 4 colorful and dazzling fused glass pins, pendants or earrings. Great for gift giving or keeping as personal accessory additions. Note: Materials fee $32 payable on day of class. Note: Offered each session. REGISTRATION CLOSED FOR MAY 5TH.

Felt a bowl, pouch or bag to hold small gifts, your phone, glasses, jewelry or other treasures. No knitting or sewing, learn the fascinating art of seamless wet felting. Add texture and color to your pouch with a variety of surface embellishments. A felted closure will keep your treasures safe inside. Note: Materials fee $20 payable to instructor on day of class. Bring 2-3 hand towels, 1 old bath towel, sharp scissors. Note: a variety of felting workshops are offered in the fall/winter/spring sessions. Felting workshops will return in the fall!

This workshop is for Educators, and clarifies how arts learning enhances academic achievement and helps participants explore ways of incorporating arts education into class curriculum. The pedagogy of allowing students to find their own path through the “creative process” will be discussed. Leave with concrete ways to provide your students with quality educational experiences through the arts.

Learn the basics of silver PMC (precious metal clay) to make beautiful one-of-a-kind jewelry. Participants will design and complete at least three or four pieces (pendants, earrings etc) in this workshop. Note: First workshop day is mandatory. Materials fee $50 payable first day. Note: Offered each session.

Friday night workshops will explore ways to be green and upcycle!

Upcycling - Date Night! On a new date and want to impress? Need a break from the kids? Want to just bring a friend? Tonight’s the night to have some creative fun taking discarded “junk” and turning it into your personal treasure! Note: Fee is per couple and includes materials, beverages and light snack. (May 17)

Upcycling - Queer Creations! Are you part of the GLBT community looking for something unique and fun? If so, this is the place to be. Make typical thrift finds into something new, creative, and fashionable! Come alone or bring a date or a friend! Note: Fee includes materials, beverages and light snack. (May 10)

Learn the art of torch firing PMC silver metal clay to create jewelry and silver artwork without the necessity of a kiln. This amazing process enables students to create one-of-a-kind silver pieces in just 4 hours. Note: Prerequisite: Previous PMC experience. Materials fee $50 payable on day of class.
