This is the third age-appropriate curriculum level that encourages creative young minds and active hands. Child and caregiver will work both collaboratively and independently on a variety of stimulating projects. Participants will increase knowledge of basic art concepts and terminology.

What do YOU want to create? Anything goes in this class where students help guide project direction—maybe artist books, handmade paper, Japanese brush painting or designing your own wall mural! Who knows? The sky is the limit.

A creative once a week alternative to aftercare. With guidance, students will be given the opportunity to explore their creativity in an open studio. From drawing and painting to bookmaking and sculpture, Fun Art Friday participants learn while finding their personal muse. Add playtime, games, exercise, reading and more for a truly fun experience!

This class is for young artists who love to draw and want help learning and refining skills. Experimenting with a variety of 2-dimensional art materials - students will work on use of line, shape, value and color elements. The use of perspective, proportion, and composition will also be taught.

Students will practice techniques, processes and creative tricks used by cartoonists to produce stories that successfully convey ideas, thoughts and feelings. Through demonstrations, show and tell, and projects, participants will learn how to conceive, draw, ink, letter and ultimately assemble their own unique cartoons and comics.

Before technology how were moving images created? Learn how to make what is now seen as unusual ways to make movies – fromsimple flip books to more complicated crankies (rolling story-tellers) and everything in between. Join the fun in this action packed visual storytelling bonanza!

This class is for kids who love ... well ... books! Students will create accordion, pocket, tunnel, flower and other artist books and journals, along with learning basic bookbinding. To top it off, participants will design some artistically awesome covers for these wonderful unique books. Time permitting papermaking may be part of the mix.

This fun workshop is designed for children AND their adults! Participants will learn basic fused glass principles and techniques to make functional artwork such as jewelry, nightlights, magnets, picture frames, window ornaments and more. Your unique artworkwould be wonderful to use or give as gifts.

Learn to make fun functional artwork out of fused (kiln fired) glass! Students will learn basic fused glass techniques to make items like hairpins, nightlights, magnets, pendants and pins! Finished art can be enjoyed by the artist or shared as a wonderful gift.

School’s Out? Get creative! Come for half- or full-day programs—make art with a variety of subjects and media, read books, hearstorytelling, get physical exercise, see old friends, make new ones and everything in between. New projects every time. 

Come for half a day, all-day—or, if scheduled, for the whole week.  Kids enter a world where their minds are hard at work learning while creating and having fun.

Each week offers a different subject for camp goers. Some camps have all-day or half-day AM/PM time options available.  Curriculum will include different projects for morning and afternoon classes. Other camps are all-day only (see camps below for details). 

Camps are open to PreK (age 4) through sixth grade unless otherwise indicated. By design, curriculum is age appropriate (including mixed age camps). When larger enrollment dictates separate classes, students will be divided according to age, ability and interests.

Create a character and the costume to match! Then elaborate on your character’s story and how it fits with the other zany characters in this whimsical camp.

Students will practice techniques, processes and creative tricks used to produce stories that successfully convey ideas, thoughts and feelings. Students will learn how to conceive, draw, ink, letter and ultimately create unique cartoons and comic series. Stop motion clay animation (claymation) will also bring this fun camp to new heights a movie debut at the end of the week.

This camp is the creative answer to recycling! Give soda cans wings to fly, turn tees into rugs, and bottle caps into movable sculptures.

What do nature and science have to do with art? Everything! Exploring patterns, shapes, colors and more will be inspiration for this fun camp.

Travel to far off lands to experience the arts of different cultures. We’ll visit the continents in one creatively packed week.

Paper is one of the most versatile and widely used of art materials.  Learn of it’s past, make artist books, cut, tear, fold, glue and even make ... paper!

Your cat strikes a perfect pose and the dog is just too cute. Learn techniques to draw creatures who are often in motion. This camp is ideal for those who love both animals and art. Class visits by various animal friends throughout the week will be arranged.

Note: If possible, a mid-week field trip to Como Zoo will be arranged.

Let’s make puppets—finger, hand, shadow, string. How about creating your own muppet and even become one yourself with a full-body makeover!?

Once again we’re having ArtiCulture’s Art Car team! We will use a donated car as a blank canvas for young artists with a vision.Participants will conceptualize and present their idea to the car owner for approval, then drive into action to create a mobile masterpiece. The grand finale will be class participation in the Art Car Parade Saturday, July 24.

Explore the work of prominent artists who spearheaded art movements with their originality. Let’s pick up where they left off withinnovative creativity.

Green your personal planet. Spend mornings at Northern Clay Center making clay cups, mugs and plates on the potters wheel. Then spend afternoons at ArtiCulture finding unusual ways to use renewable and recycled materials to create unique “green” works of art.

Printmaking is magical when using a variety of techniques to create multiple images. Experimenting with our vintage printing press is an added bonus.

This is the enchanted week for myth and lore—a world of elves and fairies, wizards and unicorns and where phoenix, griffins and dragons fill the skies.

YUM!  Back by popular demand – where art becomes food and food becomes art. Mornings will at ArtiCulture will have creating “foodworks” with a variety of non-food materials. Afternoon classes will take place a block away at the kitchen classroom of the Seward Co-op. Using local foods when possible, participants will chop, measure, stir, bake and cook to their hearts’ and stomachs’ desire.

Camera obscura, trompe l’oeil, optical illusions ... Find out how artists use tricks to fool the eye and then create some tricks of your own.

Pets rise-up and decide the humans have done enough damage in the world and it’s their turn to make the earth a better place. The humans are shocked and amazed and do everything to stop the changes coming their way. Do the animals take over, do the humans let them or fight back or ... Join the fun and help decide what happens! Students create a story and all visuals for the play.

Note: This class fills quickly.  There will be an end of the week performance debut.

Cultures have always created various board games to play, strategize and just have fun. Join the fun this week learning, playing and creating new games.

This class is for young artists who want to focus on enhancing and refining technical skills. Students will work on the elements of line,shape, value and color, along with more advanced concepts of perspective, proportion, and composition. Use of various art materials will also be shown and discussed.

This printmaking course will teach traditional and contemporary printmaking processes that may include monoprint, drypoint etching,relief block print and screenprint. Students will have guidance generating ideas and developing imagery by exploring the unique characteristics of printmaking to create conceptually rich artwork.

Learn the art of glass fusing and create awesome functional artwork.  This class will teach basic principles and techniques for kiln fired glass. Students make items of their choice—from hairpins and jewelry to artistic magnets and nightlights. Enjoy your unique finished pieces give as great Mother’s Day or birthday gifts.

Discover ways to bring art into your community, WITHOUT destroying public property. Explore the history of street and graffiti artists, and various forms such as stenciling and tagging. Discuss and create ways to mimic these arts in environmentally friendly ways to bring your own message into the community—leave around small treasures, learn how planting seeds in unusual places can bring a smile, and learn how to create your own persona.

This summer intensive is for students who truly love to immerse themselves in art making. This class will help refine technical drawingand painting skills – use of line, shade, color, perspective, proportions, and composition will be discussed. Interests such as printmaking or artist books or experimentation with a variety of art materials will also be explored.

This self-guided cooperative gives participants an opportunity to develop their artistic skills using live models.  ArtiCulture provides a limited number of easels and drawing boards on a first come, first served basis.  Bring your own supplies or purchase them here.

Drop in for $9 a session or register for the full 10 weeks for $50 (a $40 discount!). 

Note: Artists younger than 18 need parental permission.  No session Monday, May 31.

Learn basic technical skills if just starting out - such as observation, perspective, shadowing, and composition. For the more advanced student - expand your knowledge base. Benefit from individual guidance through a variety of skill-building projects, or purely enjoy a creative support system. All skill levels are welcome from beginning to advanced in dry or water based media.

Note: Bring desired supplies or materials to purchase will be discussed first class.  No class May 17 or May 31.

Guided by personal interest and ambition, students will learn basic book binding techniques to assemble artist books and journals! A variety of book styles, binding and stitching methods will be shown to make awesome personalized books.

Participants will dye at least two beautifully colorful silks. Learn color theory, silk dyeing basics, dye-setting, safety tips and eco-friendly dyeing methods. One of the silks will then be used as a base to create a stunning Nuno scarf by felting it with soft wool and other exotic fibers.

Note: Bring one old bath towel, two old hand towels and bag lunch or snack (snacks can be purchased in-house, or purchase food locally).

This class will make two “oops-I-shrunk-your” … wool sweater projects. Create an artistic water bottle cozy for your re-useable water bottles—wool not only keeps water cool but also wicks away condensation on hot days. Next, create a wonderfully embellished to-go coffee sleeve for all your hot drinks. Incredibly easy and fun to make for everyday use!

Note: Bring pre-shrunk 100% wool sweater and water bottle for sizing.

Using wool roving and a variety of embellishment fibers, learn to felt a seamless 3-dimensional small vessel to hold trinkets, chocolates or simply for decoration. Choose bright or natural colors to “sculpt” a vessel into an organic or contemporary bowl or vase. For a two-in-one series it can also be designed to be reversible. The process uses water, so dress for mess and be ready to roll up your sleeves.

The ultimate in “green” projects – use recycled fabric to create your own sculptural creatures with big personalities. Hand sewing techniques will be used in addition to a variety of recycled button and found object embellishing. Not your typical stuffed animal or pillow class—create your own personal monsters, beasts or mutant creatures.

Note: Bring special fabrics, trinket or other small object to incorporate. No fabric? Use ours. No sewing experience necessary.

Learn a great technique, without knitting or water, to felt wool fibers using special barbed needles. Design creative jewelry, beads,ornaments and more. Go green and embellish recycled wool sweater parts for a variety of accessories, adornments and gifts. You’ll be amazed at the possibilities.

Learn the fascinating art of Nuno felting! Embellish a silk scarf with soft wool fibers to create a stunning piece of wearable art. Lightas a feather, this scarf can be worn any time of year as the perfect accessory for any occasion.

Make a colorful felted pouch perfect for holding glasses, cell phone or as a mini-purse. Learn the art of wool felting using loose fibers, water and a little elbow grease. In addition, several surface embellishing techniques will be taught for added design elements.

In this workshop participants will focus on designing one-of-a-kind glass jewelry. Make at least four colorful glass pins, pendants or  earrings using colorful dichroic glass. Great for gift giving or add to your own personal collection.

Spring is the perfect time to create dazzling ornaments to catch the warming sun’s glow. Participants will work in both fused glass and stained glass processes and learn basic technical skills of copper foiling for stained glass and glass layering for kiln fused glass. These personally designed abstract or realistic patterned sun catchers are perfect for south facing windows, and make wonderful gifts!
