Class Schedule for Winter 2012

Join this fun class and explore the continents traveling to exotic places and unique cultures. Learn about different customs around the world and how art is incorporated into traditions and everyday life.

Take an enchanted ride in this adventure of a class exploring mythology and folklore. Delve into traditional tales from around the globe. Participants with have the opportunity to experiment with a variety of materials, work fine motor skills and stretch their imaginations.

This is the third level of age-appropriate curriculum that encourages creative young minds and active hands. Participants will increase knowledge of basic art concepts and terminology.

Young artists explore the world of visual arts by learning basic concepts and terminology through 2- and 3-dimensional art projects. Classes foster cognitive development, small motor skills, and creative thinking.

Do you enjoy dreamingup your own imaginary stories and tall tales? Learn different approaches to creatively telling a story in this awesome class. Participants will originate visual narratives with drawings, paintings, books, and 3-dimensional projects. Delight in how your fantastic fable comes to life!

Travel around the world exploring the art of exotic lands and find out how the desire to create is universal. Join this fun class and discover how different cultures value, use and incorporate the arts into common traditions and everyday life.

Take an enchanted ride in this adventure of a class exploring mythology and folklore. Delve into traditional tales from around the globe. Participants with have the opportunity to experiment with a variety of materials, work fine motor skills and stretch their imaginations.

Learn creative tricks used by cartoonists to produce stories that successfully convey ideas, thoughts and feelings. Participantswill conceive, draw, ink, letter and ultimately assemble their own unique cartoons and comics.

Let’s brainstorm oodles of ideas from dreams and imaginations and compile a master list of oddities onto a monstrous sheet ofpaper. Then collectively we’ll fill this entire sheet with thousands of mini pictures! When the mega art piece is full of tiny art andideas, each student takes it home in pieces as handmade books, wall art, school folders, coasters, jewelry and more!

Parents can get an adult night out--by letting the kids have an Arty Party In! Kids age 5 to 11 can take over ArtiCulture and have three and a half hours of art-driven fun with an ArtiCulture teacher. Kids will be able to use their creative energies in multiple media to create projects defined by their imagination. Parents can use the opportunity to go to a movie, a performance, a nice restaurant, or whatever.

Come for half-day, all-day, or multiple days if scheduled. Kids enter a world where their minds are hard at work while having fun. They’ll make art with a variety of creative studio themes and media, read books, hear storytelling, get physical exercise, see old friends, make new ones and everything in between. Extended care option available at additional cost.

Often viewed negatively, what actually can make tattoo art and graffiti pleasing? Ideas and content in relation to artistic expression will be examined—graffiti transformed from criminal past to accepted urban art, when art is appropriate or offensive, and how some tattoo concepts go beyond skin deep. Focus will be design, pattern, line, shade, color theory, symmetry, movement, and texture through drawing, ink, paint and paper. Note to parents: No tattooing will take place in or through this class.

Discover your “Artist within” in this self-exploratory class. For artists and non-artists alike, this class is an opportunity to experience the satisfaction of artistic creation while also letting loose, experimenting and having fun. Using a range of activities from writing to painting to printmaking you will create works of fine art by exercising the right side of your brain. Note: Materials fee $10 payable on day of class.

Sending hand written notes has become an art form—go a step further by creating the actual card. This fine art stationery is functional, beautiful, and easy to make at home. Create striking designs using simple methods and techniques. Students will takehome awesome cards ready for use and a detailed hand-carved personal reusable stamp or “chop”! The lucky recipients will find these handmade notes worthy of framing. Note: Materials fee $10 payable on day of class.

Learn the principles and techniques of the ancient tradition of Sumi-e ink Painting. Returning students will continue and learn next steps. Participants will work on basic brush strokes needed to paint bamboo, orchid, people, and landscape. Controlling water and ink on sensitive Asian paper is key to being expressive using an artisan brush. Note: No previous experience is required. Materials fee $25 payable first day of class.

If just beginning, benefit from individual guidance through a variety of skill-building projects. More advanced students can expand their base skills in a creative support system. All levels welcome— dry or water based media. Note: Bring desired supplies or materials to purchase will be discussed first class.

Learn the fascinating art of Nuno felting! Embellish a silk scarf with soft wool fibers to create a stunning piece of wearable art. Choose your color palette of beautifully dyed fibers, and then create any design from floral to geometric to abstract. Light as a feather, this scarf can be worn year-round as the perfect accessory for any occasion. Note: Dress for mess and bring one old bath towel and two hand towels. Materials fee $25 payable on day of class.

Learn the art of seamless 3-D wet felting! Using wool and a variety of natural fibers, felt a small vessel to hold trinkets, chocolates or to simply brighten up any shelf. Choose bright or natural colors, then “sculpt” your vessel into any shape from organic to contemporary. A duel aesthetic is also possible by making it reversible. Process uses water, so dress for mess. Materials fee $20 payable on day of class.

Learn the art of traditional wet feltmaking. No knitting required, create a seamless felted tote bag from colorful wool fibers. This sturdy tote has a roomy pocket and is perfect for carrying books, a laptop and other necessities. Note: Bring 2-3 hand towels,1 old bath towel, sharp scissors, cotton fabric or dish towel about 15”x 15” and bag lunch. Handle options available for purchase in workshop or select your own. Materials fee $30 payable on day of class.

Learn the art of torch firing PMC silver metal clay, to create jewelry and silver artwork without the necessity of a kiln. This amazing process, enables students to create one-of-a-kind silver pieces in just 4 hours. Note: Prerequisite: Previous PMC experience. Note: Materials fee $40 payable on day of class. Additional clay can be purchased.

Learn the basics of silver PMC (precious metal clay) to make beautiful one-of-a-kind jewelry. Participants will design and complete at least three or four pieces (pendants, earrings etc) in this workshop. Note: First workshop day is mandatory. Materials fee $45 payable day of class.
