CAMPS Grades 3 – 6

Can You Dig It? (July 15 - 19) What do anthropology, archeology, and art have in common? Come find out in this fun camp! Spend mornings digging around Northern Clay Center transforming clay inspired by anthropological relics and ancient artifacts. Campers will then walk over in the afternoons and join us at Articulture to discover some archeological finds by sifting through a variety of art materials to make some amazing objects of antiquity. Note: Registration through Northern Clay Center. Ages: 9 – 12

Art Car (July 22 - 26) Be part of the Articulture Art Car team! Campers will conceptualize ideas and narrow it down to one plan for approval on a donated car. Everyone will then go into action to create a mobile masterpiece. Note: Join us Saturday, July 29 (optional) for the grand finale—to be in the Minneapolis Art Car Parade! 

 Reigning Cats & Dogs (Aug 5 - 9) This popular camp is for true animal lovers! Learn how to capture animals in action. We will schedule class visits by various furry, scaly, and feathered friends and pets over the week. A day at Como Zoo will be planned mid-week.  Note: Weather determines zoo day, drop off/pickup at Zoo. No before/aftercare on zoo day. 

Comics to Animation (Aug 12 - 16) Campers in this dynamic class will design fun and imaginative comics. Learn techniques to show detailed thoughts, feelings, and ideas.  Using favorite story concepts, the class will then also plan and create animated stop-motion shorts.

5 Centers Camps - Artful Adornments  (June 24 – 28) Express yourself through art! Create your own useable and wearable pieces of art in this special collaboration with 5 Minneapolis art centers. Campers will spend one day at each of the centers using a variety of creative mediums to explore personal expression and style, in this order: Northern Clay Center, Highpoint Center for Printmaking, Chicago Avenue Fire Arts Center, Textile Center, and Articulture. Note: Register through Northern Clay Center. Ages 9 - 12  

CAMPS Grades K – 6

 Global Traditions  (June 10 – 14) Take a trip across the continents and learn how various cultures have found ways to express themselves through artmaking. Our projects will then blend global concepts into imaginative ideas.

Art Toys & Games (June 17 - 21) Let your imagination go wild bringing fun game ideas to life, then be inspired to make playthings that are not just toys, but are truly one-of-a-kind creations. Then let’s make some time to play! Note: No class June 19. 4 days

Architectural Design  (June 24 – 28) Architects design unique places where we live, work, and play. We’ll use our skills to explore the creative world of architectural design and then then build our own unique and ingenious spaces.

Art Lab  (July 1 – 3, 5) Explore the fusion of art and science and learn about the magic of light and pigment, wild concoctions, and thrilling artistic experiments. Get ready for a journey where the studio turns into an artistic lab! Note: No class July 4. 4 days

Dragon’s Breath (July 8 – 10) Embark on a charmed mystical journey and let fairy dust pave the way into a realm of mythological elves, fauns, wizards, and majestic dragons where enchantment awaits around every corner.

Creative Multiples (July 15 – 19) Printmaking is all about starting with one image and making it multiply, allowing artists to create original art “series”. You will learn different printmaking techniques, each having distinct textures and styles.

Tall Tales & Short Stories  (July 22 – 26) From pictures to chapter books, stories help define the rich tapestry of civilizations. Bring amazing ideas forth by weaving visual narratives to make your own original and personal stories.  Grades K - 2                    

Urban Wilds  (July 29 – Aug 2) Nature journals will fill with observations of native plants and animals from nearby parks, while collected items will be used back in the studio.  Art projects will then be inspired by the vibrant life that thrives here!  

Animals  (Aug 5 – 9) This camp week is for true animal lovers! Get up close to observe and learn about some furry, scaly, slimy, and feathery visitors. We get to combine our passion for art with the animals we adore! Grades K - 2

Past to Present (Aug 12 – 16) From cave painting to now humans have always had the urge to create. We’ll take an art history tour to learn of art of long ago. Influenced by art from the past we’ll create our own work of art.

Masks & Puppets (Aug 19 – 23) Masks and puppetry possess elements of visual arts and theater, enabling the magical ability to suspend belief with storytelling. Learn some interesting history, then design your own captivating creations.

In Your Dreams (Aug 26 – 30) Dreams will inspire ideations in this whimsical camp. From your unconscious adventures to your wildest daydreams, anything goes! Draw inspiration from both and bring them to life in this whimsical camp.

Children grades K - 6

Grade levels refer to fall 2024     

 Daily class programming is 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

Week-long art camps are offered throughout the summer. Each week offers a different theme to pique creative interests. The camps for children are usually broken up into 2 different levels for age-appropriate curricula: grades K - 2 and grades 3 - 6. Each student can be registered for a number of different camps depending on desired dates and subject matter.

Offered:                                             

  • Curriculum is age appropriate and varies each day        

  • Enrollment dictates if ages are blended for children’s camps            

  • Extended care AM & PM options are available (details below)

  • Snacks & juice ($1 each) - optional

Please bring:

  • Bag lunch and two snacks  

  • Water bottle - recommended

  • Send appropriate gear for outside

  • After lunch, weather permitting, half an hour is spent at the local park

  • Remember to DRESS FOR MESS

Camp days are broken into three parts

Morning:

  • Drop off is 8:50 - 9:00 am*

  • Students go into the studio classroom at 9 am

  • The teaching artist will do introductions as needed, and begin art instruction in relation to the theme of the day

  • Morning session is 9 - noon 

  • Morning 15-minute snack break is midway during the session, and weather determines if class will go out back for some fresh air  

 Noon break:

  • Lunch is a half hour 12:00 - 12:30 pm, and weather dictates if lunch is outside or in

  • 12:30 - 1:00pm the class will gear up and go across the street to Triangle Park to play

  • The park has a full playground, swings, and a climbable dragon sculpture

 Afternoon:

  • 1:00pm class session starts

  • Afternoon 15-minute snack break is midway during the session, and weather determines if class will go out back or stay inside.   

  • Class day ends at 4:00 pm

  • Pickup is 4:00 - 4:10 pm*

 Extended Care:

  • Before care is 8:00 - 9:00 am 

  • After care is 4:00 - 5:30 pm 

 NOTES:

  • * If students are dropped off in the morning before 8:50 am or picked up in the afternoon after 4:10 pm, there is a charge for extended care

  • Extended care has free time to play games, draw, read, etc., there is no structured programming during this time

  • If students are picked up after 5:30 pm there is a charge of $1 per minute
