Educational Internships

Summer Educational Internships

Each summer session, June - August, Articulture mentors 5 interns who are interested in arts education as a career path. Interns have the opportunity to work under professional teaching artists in an educational setting during the summer art camp program serving children grades K-6.

Interns assist our teaching artists to help with and learn about classroom management, class prep, arts curriculum, and general classroom organization. Interns also oversee students during snack breaks and over the lunch hour.

Week-long summer camps run Monday to Friday, 8:00 am - 5:30 pm. The internship program is structured for interns to rotate through morning or afternoon schedules on a weekly basis.

Benefits

Interns will be a part of a Minneapolis grassroots art center that places emphasis on the creative process, the act of artmaking, over product. By the end of this internship program, interns will acquire first-hand knowledge of teaching pedagogies, obtain classroom management skills, and extensive curriculum development.

At the same time there is opportunity to gain experience working in a nonprofit arts setting, and learn about aspects of grassroots community involvement and activism. A mentorship under professional artist educators, also gives interns access to networking within the local arts community. If highly motivated to pursue a teaching career by the end of this internship, participating interns will be well prepared to become teaching ready.

Who should apply and when?

Articulture needs creatives who are highly dedicated, self-motivated, and focused to assist art teachers and administrative staff. Recent graduates, college students, or visual artists interested in going into arts education as a possible career are welcome to apply. Candidates working on or holding a BA, BFA, or a minor in Studio Art will be given highest priority. Students studying art education will also be considered.

Some experience working with children is preferred. Intern must be available 25 hours per week for the duration of the summer camp session. Each intern can receive 2 - 3 weeks off during this time.

There is no deadline to apply. Applications are accepted year-round, and candidates are considered on a rolling basis starting November 1.
